What's a Credit Union?

A credit union is a cooperative, not-for-profit financial institution organized to promote thrift and provide credit to members. It is member-owned and controlled through a board of directors elected by the membership. The board serves on a volunteer basis and may hire a management team to run the credit union. The board also establishes and revises policy, sets dividend and loan rates, and directs certain operations. The result: members are provided with a safe, convenient place to save and borrow at reasonable rates at an institution which exists to benefit them, not to make a profit.

Are savings deposits insured?

Yes. All savings accounts are insured up to $100,000 by the NCUA, the National Credit Union Administration, an agency of the federal government.

Are savings and borrowing rates better at my credit union than elsewhere?

Credit unions often offer very competitive rates on everything from savings accounts to auto and home loans, in part because they are nonprofit agencies and have no taxes to pay and no investors to satisfy. They also have lower marketing costs and overhead than commercial institutions. Thus, they can pay their members above-average rates on deposits and charge below-average rates on loans and credit cards.

How is our Credit Union preparing for the financial marketplace of the future?

We are committed to partnering with top providers to bring quality financial service to our members. One thing members may always be assured of is that the human touch will never leave the credit union. We will never become too big or sophisticated that our members can not talk to a real person when they have a concern.
